Start your journey with a morning pickup from your hotel in Bukhara, where your driver will take you on a scenic 285 km (4-hour) drive towards the Nurata Mountains. Along the way, make stops to visit the ruins of Rabat-i-Malik Caravanserai, a historic resting place for travelers along the Silk Road, and Sardoba, an ancient reservoir. Continue your journey to Nurata, a town known for its holy spring mosque, and explore the ruins of a fortress built by Alexander the Great.

By lunchtime, you will arrive in Uhum Village, a picturesque rural community located in the upper part of the village, offering an authentic homestay experience. Your accommodation consists of traditionally decorated rooms, where you will settle in and enjoy lunch with your host family. The homestay serves as a perfect starting point for exploring the surrounding area. After lunch, one of the family members, who speaks Basic English, will take you on a short tour to learn about the daily activities of the local people. You will have the opportunity to see local traditions, such as butter-making, bread baking in a tandir oven, fruit harvesting, and firewood collection. In the evening, you can either watch or participate in the preparation of Plov, a traditional Uzbek dish, for dinner. Overnight stay at the homestay.

After a hearty breakfast, embark on a hiking adventure around Uhum Village, accompanied by a local guide with Basic English. Hike through the beautiful valley and head towards the ancient petroglyph site, dating back over 4,500 years. The hike to the site is about 4 km one way and takes around 2 hours. Along the way, you will pass through scenic landscapes and see locals engaged in their daily routines—such as making butter, baking bread, and harvesting fruits.

Along the route, you will also stop to visit the mausoleum of Hazrati Boboy Eshon, an important religious site. Once you reach the petroglyph site, you will get up close to this ancient rock art, providing a fascinating glimpse into the region’s deep history. Afterward, return to the homestay for a well-deserved lunch.

Following lunch, you will drive to Samarkand, the capital of Tamerlane's Empire. The journey to Samarkand is approximately 220 km (4 hours). Upon arrival in Samarkand, you will be transferred to your hotel or railway station, marking the end of your Uhum Village & Petroglyph Hiking Tour.

Alternative Option

If you prefer a lighter hike on the second day, you can opt for a guided hike to the neighboring Hayat village, instead of visiting the petroglyph site. The hike to Hayat village is approximately 3 km one way (about 1 hour). From the homestay, hike to the top, where you will be rewarded with stunning views of Lake Aydarkul and the Kyzilkum steppe. After a short rest, continue to Hayat village, where you can visit the breeding enclosure for the endangered Severtzo’s sheep. Spend some time exploring the area and capturing photos of these rare and unique animals.
