Located at the heart of Central Asia − Uzbekistan since ancient times has been a crossroad of caravan routes, a connecting link between countries and people, a meeting place for languages, cultures and civilizations. Endless caravans of camels transported carpets and silk, porcelain and precious stones, spices and medicine.

The majority of cities in Uzbekistan are over 2500 years old. And this is not an exotic specially built for tourists – this is the real-life of real people. At the same time, you don’t have to sacrifice comfort: in this Central Asian republic, there are five-star hotels of world brands, an analog of Ukrainian Hyundai trains and hospitality, from which tables break. Year after year, Uzbekistan is becoming a popular travel destination attracting millions of travelers.

Here are the ultimate reasons why Uzbekistan is a great place for everyone.

1. (Number one) Safety

Uzbekistan is considered one of the safest countries in the world, both for its citizens and foreign travellers.

Travel service Wego Place published the Solo Travel Safety Report 2019, which described the top 10 safest countries for traveling alone. The survey involved citizens from 142 countries. Among the 142 countries, Uzbekistan took 5th place, so it is not scary to go to this country with family, friends, or even alone. The country respects foreigners, the locals will always prompt and help get to your destination, and even invite home for tea. Stability and minimum stressful situations in the country are ensured by a security service that patrols city streets around the clock.

2. (Number two) It is a paradise for lovers of ancient architecture

Uzbekistan is a country of ancient high culture, which gave the world beautiful examples of architecture. Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Shakhrisabz, Termez and Kokand are the most famous architectural centers of art and science. In particular, palaces, mausoleums and mosques, minarets and ancient masterpieces were preserved to capture the pages of history.

The cities of Uzbekistan were the cultural and intellectual centers of the ancient Islamic world. For example, in the city of Bukhara, you can see 365 mosques, high minarets, caravanserais with different shades of blue, and madrasahs covered with tiles. The walled city of Khiva is a living museum, protected by Unesco but still populated by Uzbek families and businesses.

Three Madrasahs of Registan in Samarkand are outstanding architectural monuments not only in Central Asia but also in World architecture. One can see there remarkable decorative glazed tile work, both in exterior and in the interior of the buildings.

3. (Number three) Crossroad of the Great Silk Road

If you’re intrigued by the ancient Silk Road but don’t have the time to travel its length from China to Turkey, you’ll find three of the route’s most important cities in Uzbekistan. Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand were key stop-offs for traders, and have all been painstakingly restored to their former glory – think glittering minarets, voluptuous domes and hypnotic mosaics.

The ancient cities and villages located on the territory of modern Uzbekistan have turned not only into centers of trade but also developed production. With a little planning, you can squeeze them all into a week, making this the perfect bite of Silk Road splendor.

4. (Number four) The abundance of fruits and vegetables.

Uzbekistan is famous for its abundance of fruits and vegetables, which, thanks to a combination of natural conditions and an abundance of sunlight, have a delicious aroma and taste. If you want to know how melons, tomatoes, apricots, pears and greens smell, and what they taste like, then you certainly need to go to the local market. Just by entering the market, you can smell the fragrant melon for a hundred meters. Only at the markets of Uzbekistan, you will be offered free to taste any fruits, nuts, as well as sweets and dried fruits. Only in Uzbekistan, you will be served such a sweet melon and grapes for dessert that you won’t even think about adding sugar to tea.

5. (Number five) Uzbek cuisine

Uzbek dishes are popular all over the world. Shish kebab, samsa, manti, chuchvara, shurpa – the tastiest dishes of Uzbek cuisine. There are always a lot of greens and vegetables on the table. They must have taste and smell. Here you can eat only tomatoes and feel happy. If you try the fish that is caught in the Syr Darya river, you will lick your fingers. And, of course, plov, of which there are about a hundred species in the country.

6. (Number six) A tolerant society with hospitable people

The special kindness, friendliness and hospitality of the Uzbek people have long been on everyone’s mouths. The longer you travel around the country, the more pleasant your communication with locals will be. Guests in the country are loved, they are always welcome. Don`t be surprised if even a stranger invites you to a generously filled dastarkhan table and offers you a cup of tea.

If you visit an Uzbek family, you can get to know the wonderful traditions and customs, feel the simplicity and generosity of the Uzbek people.

7. (Number seven) Variety of the landscape

The landscape of Uzbekistan is unusually diverse and attractive. The nature and climate of the country give huge scope for eco-tourism from deserts to mountains to glaciers and much more.

Low and high mountain ranges interspersed with wide, open valleys. Leaving the cities, you will see both massive sandy expanses and mountain landscapes. Clear lakes and beaches, the ruins of ancient monuments, travel on camels and boats – all these are combined in one country.

8. (Number eight) Mountain tourism

The mountains of Uzbekistan are a very popular holiday destination, both in summer and in winter. In the spring, summer and autumn in the mountains of Uzbekistan, there are a lot of different opportunities for recreation. As soon as the mass melting of snow ends, in late April, alpinists, climbers and mountain tourists go on routes. At this time, the famous Alpiniada is held annually in the Chimgan Mountains. The clean mountain air and picturesque surroundings, mild winters and steady sunny weather, long ski slopes and, importantly, the lack of queues on the ski lifts – all this creates wonderful and attractive conditions for a free ride.

9. (Number nine) Shopping

Shopping in Uzbekistan is a pleasure, given reasonable prices. You find the first advantage in any souvenir shop. Souvenirs accurately reflect the friendly atmosphere of the country. Besides, the bazaars are full of various products of local artisans, nuts, fruits, dried fruits, spices and the most delicious halva in the world.

If you still know how to bargain -you will bring home twice as many gifts and souvenirs. Properly selected souvenirs will allow you to take a piece of Uzbek land with you, and the prices will pleasantly surprise even a budget traveler.

10. (Number ten) Visa-free regime

Since January 1st, 2020, the total number of countries whose citizens have obtained the right to visa-free travel to Uzbekistan has reached 86. A visa-free regime has been introduced for a number of Latin American countries, China, most countries in Europe, America, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Israel and all CIS countries except Turkmenistan.
