Lake Kaindy, a 400-meter-long lake in Kazakhstan, is also known as the “birch tree lake” or landslide. The water descends to around thirty meters. It is 2,001 meters above sea level and is 129 kilometers to the east-southeast of Almaty.

As part of Kolsay Lakes National Park, Lake Kaindy is situated in southern Kazakhstan. It is 130 kilometers east of Almaty, at an elevation of 2,000 meters above sea level. The 1911 Kebin earthquake caused a significant limestone landslide that created a natural dam and a lake. It was filled with water from a mountain river and blocked the gorge. At its deepest point, Lake Kaindy, which spans approximately 400 meters, descends to nearly 30 meters. Because of the presence of limestone deposits, the water’s color remains bluish-green.

There are submerged Picea schrenkiana tree trunks rising above the lake’s surface. People call this location a “sunken forest” a lot. The tree trunks are covered in a thick layer of algae and other aquatic plants; the cool water helps preserve them. Lake Kaindy has grown in popularity as a destination for foreign tourists in recent years. In the winter, the lake is well-known for its trout fishing and ice diving.

The lake is remarkable because the spruce trees that were growing along the river were spared from destruction by the water that filled the dam after a natural barrier closed the gorge. The Kaindy River traverses a roughly 20-meter-tall, two-sided rock face before emptying into the lake. The bark and side branches of the trees that rose above the water disappeared, and the wood went white. Staring at a panorama like this gives you the impression that you are staring at a submerged squadron. The exposed tree trunks resemble the masts of sunk ships. The surface of the lake itself is constantly changing, frequently taking on an exquisite blue hue. Lime and other minerals that were present in the water a century ago are the reason for its peculiar tint. However, the water turns crystal clear as you approach the lake, and occasionally you may even spot trout in it. Even though the water is cold, diving aficionados like Kaindy Lake.
