The enormous, opulent new Chaikhana in Dushanbe is 120 meters long and 120 meters wide, yet it is still poorly recognized outside of Tajikistan. The Persian word “chaikhana” means “tea house.” It’s conceivable that the purpose of this new “tea house” construction was to take the place of the well-liked and frequently frequented Chakhana Rohat on Rudaki Avenue, which was spared from eventual destruction.
Navruz Palace is very large, but it’s not a tea house; it was once dubbed the largest tea house in the world. It boasts a huge artificial lake, a restaurant, a bowling alley, a pool hall, and a movie theater, and we haven’t even spoken about the major rooms yet!

History and Origins
Throughout Central Asia, tea shops have long been significant—not merely as places to drink a cup of tea but also as gathering places where people may meet, converse, and even do business. Large central teahouse operations and smaller, more localized events were common in cities in the past.
The popularity of these locations has decreased with the introduction of television, radio, and the internet. The smaller tea shops have collapsed as a result of the decreased demand, while the larger establishments have been forced to change their business models and open restaurants.
The most well-known tea shop in Dushanbe is named Rohat. This elderly affair is an open-fronted, tastefully furnished edifice ideal for taking in the crisp spring nights. But now, it serves as a restaurant instead of its previous purpose.
President Emomali Rahmon recommended in 2002 that the city of Dushanbe build a brand-new tea house that the community would be proud of. With funds from the Orien State Bank, work got underway. The best artisans were hired to create it, using the best materials available. The 4,000 workers completed the 40,000-square-meter facility in 2015. It is evident that Kokhi Navruz Palace is much more than just a tea house now that it has been finished.

What is it if it’s not a tea house?
This question’s most obvious response would be a pleasure palace! A massive artificial lake, a billiards room, a movie theater, a racing track, many eating options, a bowling alley, elaborate gardens, and four rooms set aside for a dining and conference center are all included in Kokhi Navruz.
When you first arrive, you’ll see the enormous, opulent entryway, which is reminiscent of a Disney castle, palace, and waterfall, thanks to the plaster work!
That’s not all, though; the meeting and eating sections have really beautiful rooms. Each of the rooms is assigned a set of characteristics.
Zarandud Hall: Due to its abundance of 24-carat gold leaf, this lavish hall is also known as the “golden hall.” Magnificent ivory gypsum flutes lead to a large dome that would not seem out of place in a stately mosque. The enormous chandelier that hangs in the center of the space is even more striking.
Didor Hall: This is a livelier, more colorful event. The room, built in the authentic Central Asian style, is awash with regional flavor and charm! Locals can also reserve this vibrant gypsum-crystalline wonder for special occasions like weddings.
Arzhang is an additional meeting hall with gorgeous masonry décor. Here, a variety of stones, all from Tajikistan, are utilized, such as granite and exquisite marbles that are accentuated with semi-precious stones.

Gulistan Hall: Just when you thought the complexities of this institution could not be any more complex, you find yourself in this room. It’s a true wooden masterpiece—a carpenter’s dream—with 94 different varieties of wood! The intricate craftsmanship of the red walnut doors, mahogany floors, and maple-lined walls featuring tiny twisted finials gives the impression that they have fallen from a Game of Thrones castle.
There are modest side rooms for refreshments and breaks when meetings become too intense, as if all of this wasn’t enough. These include kitsch rambles and reflected wonders.
Thank you very much for your attention.
