Tashkent region is abundant in diverse picturesque corners, and it is remarkable that a large part of them remains little known and inaccessible.
A trip to the Tavaksay Waterfalls is an ideal choice for those who enjoy light and safe travel through the foothill regions of the Tashkent oasis. Situated between the cities of Chirchik and Gazalkent, the Tavaksay Waterfalls are located where the Karzhantau mountain range begins.
On modern maps of the Tashkent region, at least 30% of the territory consists of unique and underexplored areas.
Tavaksay is a unique place where natural forces have created a series of picturesque waterfalls and canyons. Two large waterfalls form gorges that may remind one of the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River.
The surrounding landscape gradually frames the Tavaksay gorge, and the rocks echo each other for kilometers. Sometimes, it’s hard to believe that such majestic waterfalls can exist in relatively low mountains.
Azadbash – Tavaksay is an easy trekking route in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan. It is approximately 18 km long and passes along the beautiful waterfalls and canyons of the Azadbash and Tavaksay rivers.
After about two hours on Azadbash, you can see the first waterfall called “Streaming,” which is 8 meters high. Further up the riverbed, you reach the second waterfall named “Gildirak,” which means “wheel.”

The largest waterfall, named “Grandiose,” is the third in line and stands at 20 meters tall.
Near this twenty-meter waterfall in the gorge, there are two more waterfalls called “Braids,” but they are quite difficult to reach.
After a few more hours, you can reach Tavaksay. The large waterfall here is very impressive.
The Tavaksay Canyon with its large twenty-five-meter waterfall is a beautiful natural creation that is definitely worth visiting. No special physical preparation is required to reach this place.
Another attraction of Tavaksay is the Camel Hump Mountain, which is 1181 meters high. Even from a distance, you can notice the “hump” of the Camel, from which the name originated.
This hike is recommended for hiking enthusiasts and beginners who love outdoor walks. In good weather conditions, this route can be completed in one day.
Majestic mountain peaks, roaring streams, massive rocks and cliffs, deep gorges, and forested, evergreen hills create an atmosphere where not only is it difficult to determine one’s place in space, but also in time. After all, these places could have looked the same hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, of years ago.
