We were in the village Garasha in May 2024 and it was very windy. It’s actually always windy village.
At the foothills of the Purvikor Nurota mountain range, among the charming hills of the ancient Forish land, there is the equestrian village of Garasha. Garasha is a village famous for its history, culture, traditions, values, and people who have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries.
The history of the village of Garasha is connected with the name of Maulana Muhammad Sharif Grekushah, a historical person who lived in the 12th century and was a great representative of the Yassawiya order of Sufism. There is a large house named after him in the village. The palace was built around the 12th century and was later p erfected on the basis of mediaeval architecture in a domed form during the reign of Mirzo Ulugbek. In history, scholars of Sufism gathered from Garasha and other regions in this room and held discussions and debates on science and enlightenment. Currently, this place is considered a holy shrine.
The word “Grekushah” in the name of Maulana Muhammad Sharif Grekushah, a great representative of the Yassawiya order in Sufism, means “untier of knots.” The great exponents of Sufism, that is, pirs, sheikhs, and scholars, answered the problematic questions that arise in the social and spiritual practice of Islam, found their solutions, and conveyed them to the Muslim community. That is why Maulana Muhammad Sharif was given the rank of “grekushah.”.
